Getting Started with ComfyUI

If you are reading this, I am assuming that you know what ComfyUI is. If not you should check out the article I wrote explaining it.

Before getting started with ComfyUI there are a few things you should know:

  • You are working at the bleeding edge of technology, so expect things not to work perfectly. Google, chatGPT and reddit are your friends.
  • If you are not comfortable using the command prompt, prepare to get uncomfortable.
  • The models are typically large files, be sure you have plenty of space on your hard drive.
  • If following directions well is not your thing, this might not be your thing.
  • It’s really cool to get these models working on your own computer, it is worth the frustration.
  • There is more than one right way to get started with ComfyUI, if you aren’t feeling a set of directions or a video, try another one.

Now that the disclaimers are out of the way, let’s dig in.

At the end of this post you are going to have a working installation of ComfyUI running on your computer. ComfyUI is a GUI for interacting with text-to-image models.

ComfyUI is a web application. Once installed you will access the application through your browser of choice. ComfyUI will interact with the models that you have installed on your computer.

ComfyUI will also interact with the graphics card, if you have one, if you don’t, image generation is going to take a while, but again, still worth trying out.

The instructions are different depending on your operating system. So I’ve created different guides to getting started with ComfyUI. Check out the one that will work best for you based on your operating system.
